Why Florence Lilly ....

My Grandmother, born on a farm in 1900 went on to become a seamstress, milliner, ladies maid, housekeeper and
served her time as a Sergeant Cook in the Army.
​
Immaculate in her presentation, she was exceptional at everything she put her hands to.
​
I am so fortunate and grateful to her for all those hours spent, learning some wonderful skills such as knitting, sewing, crochet, cooking, rug making and to my delight padded hanger making.
​
Having named our shop Florence Lilly, there is simply no room for failure and thanks to so many of our wonderfully happy customers, we do feel we can proudly say we are keeping her name in good stead.
​
Going forward with her ethos, we strive to ensure the Florence Lilly name is held in high esteem and guarantee a quality service throughout.

... A little about myself ...
My name is Annette, second eldest of a wonderfully large family born and raised in the North East of England.
I treasure family life and now have a beautiful little family of my own, complete with dog!
We live in picturesque Northumberland, which is a constant source of inspiration.
My passion is beautiful yarns and between my Mum and Grandmother (Florence Lilly)
I have learnt so much about working with textiles using techniques such as knitting, machine knitting, crochet, sewing and weaving,
along with a healthy knowledge of woodworking and paints. I enjoy designing, manufacturing, sourcing
and bringing wonderful products to you for purchase.
It dawned on me early one beautiful spring morning, whilst walking Barnaby (the dog!), that so many of the really nice things around us are a testament to times gone by. In this fast moving world I feel it is important to treasure those little items of the past and bring back some forgotten ones too.
Don't get me wrong, I love technology and all it brings, but I also adore a quality item, be it clothing or something for the home.
How wonderful it is when you can enjoy a little quality yourself or gift it to family and friends.
... and what I do ...
I set out to source and develop beautiful items from all over the globe, made by amazing people from superb materials, as well as products from local manufacturers and artisans. With a no compromise approach to protecting the environment and only top notch working conditions, the best products were and continue to be found. The criteria being, they must fit well into our modern lives,
whilst giving a thank you nod to our wonderful past.
